Keep Your Eyes On Your Feel Great Journey Goal
A few years ago I took a motorcycle safety training course. I wanted to get a motorcycle and my husband didn't want me to unless I took this course. (He is always looking out for me!) One of the main things I came away with was that the bike will follow my eyes. So, if I look at a pothole in the road while trying to avoid it, the bike will always end up in that hole. When I start to turn a corner, I am supposed to look through the corner, ahead of the bike to where I want to go.
Your eyes hold a lot of power. Where you look, either literally or figuratively, is where you will end up. And remember what I said about how your mind holds the power of success for your journey? Well, one way (and some say the main way) you get information into your mind is through your eyes. What you put into your mind is important.
Let's talk about television. Do the shows you watch help you on your journey or do they hinder you? Here is a great article about television and it's effect on our mind and body. It's called The Truth About Television. It's kind of a long article but really worth the read.
Now, I would like to encourage you to think about making one of your goals to feel great. If you have a goal to lose weight or to be a certain size, I believe that is a problem waiting to happen. When you focus on weight, there is tendency to do whatever it takes to get there, sometimes at the expense of your health. And then what happens when you get to your goal weight? You go back to your old habits and pretty soon you have to start all over again. It is not wrong to want to lose weight, in fact, it is very good. But I'm saying it is not a worthy goal.
Let me give you analogy. I teach math. One of my pet peeves is when teachers teach (and, consequently, students learn) how to do math without understanding why they need to do what they are doing. Students can work problems that are exactly like the ones they have practiced. But if they don't know the theory and logic of why they are doing it, they can't extend their knowledge to previously unfamiliar problems. Their focus is on the form, not the substance.
It's the same with weight loss. If you focus on being healthy, the weight will come off because it is unhealthy to be overweight. Additionally, you want to always be healthy. So, since your goal is be healthy, there will never be a reason to go back to being unhealthy. Additionally, if you are healthy, you will also be feeling good.
I entitled this website Feel Great After 50. Another name I could give it is Be Healthy After 50. The two ideas are inseparable. In order to feel great, you need to be healthy. And when you are healthy, you will, as a natural consequence, feel great.
So, if your eyes are focused on your goal to feel great (or be healthy), then that is where you are going to end up. I will remind you about this periodically on this website to encourage you.
