Dealing With Boredom On
Your Feel Great Journey
It's okay to be bored ... occasionally.
Do you agree with this last statement? Most of us don't like to be bored, me included. In fact, boredom is probably the number one thing I try to avoid. Once I came to the realization that occasional boredom is okay, I am better able to cope with it. Boredom is the number one reason I watch television, procrastinate and don't finish projects. I like new things, new activities and new ideas. I don't like studying, doing housework or repeating anything. I figure if I've done it once, I'm done. If I learn a new foreign word, I figure I shouldn't have to repeat it. But we all know that we need repetition to actually learn new things.
However, once I realized that boredom is just part of life, I could focus on the fact that I wouldn't be bored forever. It will have an end, so I can get through it. We all have to spend time doing boring things. Becoming a professional anything (golfer, football player, doctor ...) requires large amounts of time spent doing boring activities to learn and hone skills.
The kind of boredom I'm talking about here is temporary boredom. Chronic boredom can be a problem. Read here for more information on the effects and how to avoid chronic boredom.
So what will keep you from giving up when things get boring? Keeping your eyes and focus on your goal.
